Last Chance U for those that have not seen the series, is a show about college football players who have handled hardships, left college, and are looking for a new start. Many of the players involved in the series were involved in crimes or incidents at their division 1 NCAA schools and were asked to leave their programs. However, Last Chance U shades a brighter light on these young men who are looking to go back to top collegiate football schools. Anywhere from academic performance and work ethic at East Mississippi Community College is measured for all players that enter the program. Buddy Stephens, the head football coach motivates these athletes to reinvent themselves, and realize their passion for the game and not getting into trouble with the authorities or administration. One of the most successful stories from this show was from the first season with John Franklin III. He was an outstanding quarterback recruit at Florida State. He had not received the playing time he wanted at FSU and decided to transfer to EMCC. When he transferred he came in with a positive and was a mentor to others in the program. He was a standout player for the program, which earned his eventual transfer out of the program to Auburn and Florida Atlantic. After changing positions for the NFL draft he is now a defensive back for the Chicago Bears. A great story, but just one of the many from this show that engages the viewer in, to hope for the very best for these football players.
I would strongly recommend this show for not just the sports lover, but anyone that loves a story of growth and connection to a passion. These players move on from EMCC, but the program gives them a new opportunity to grow and learn more about themselves before they move on to D1 programs.
