Romantic comedies are the epitome of Non-Sappy RomComs. Netflix modern-minded Rom-Coms are a breath of fresh air. Here are 3 of the best movies on netflix to watch when you’re looking for a laugh with a thin veil of romance.

'Someone Great'

Someone Great follows the break-up story of a music-journalist, Jenny (played by Gina Rodriguez), who is living in NYC and just got her dream job with Rolling Stones San Francisco. Her boyfriend of 9 years isn’t too keen on the long distance thing and decided to end the relationship. To fix her broken heart, Jenny turns to her two best friends for one crazy last adventure in the city before she moves. Someone Great is a hysterical and heartfelt story full of friendship, love, heartbreak and lifestyle changes. A Netflix Original, it is very relatable and contemporary which makes it a MUST watch.

'Set It Up'

“Set it Up” is about two overworked assistants, who scheme to set up their demanding bosses in hopes that it will get them off of their backs.

At first glance, “Set It Up” seems like one of those classic romantic comedies, and in some ways, it is. However, this film breaks the lines of a traditional romantic comedy and has been able to win over most of the Netflix Community.

“Set it Up” is about two overworked assistants, who scheme to set up their demanding bosses in hopes that it will get them off of their backs. The assistant of a ESPN sports reporter, who hopes to get her big break in sports writing, and the assistant of a venture capitalist (who is kind of a jerk), meet when they are overwhelmed with the demanding requests from their bosses, who work in the same building. They come together with one common goal: to get their life outside of the office back.

The scheme that sets up the plot inevitably means that there will be a confrontation at the end, making you want to keep watching. Their scheming plan compares to that of the classic "Parent Trap." And who doesn't love a good scheme? Set It Up is highly predictable and a little cheesy, but not sappy. Definitely a movie to put on your "must watch" list.

'She's Out of My League'

She's a 10. He's a 5. You can't jump more than two points. It just doesn't happen.

Shes Out of my League is a hysterical story about a geeky and quirky guy named Kirk, who dreams of being a pilot (but is really just a low-level airport security agent) and a gorgeous party planner, Molly, who is a perfect 10. But, Kirk is more of a 5. When Molly shows interest in him Kirk can’t believe someone like her would pursue him. Not to mention, his friends and family are not scared to tell him that he's not good enough for her.

The plot goes through a hilarious round of real life scenarios involving the relationship of the couple, the disbelief that this woman could be with Kirk and hilarious awkward situations. At the end of the day, this movie is sure to be a total crowd pleaser. One of my favorites!
