If you're someone who needs background noise while accomplishing other tasks but music distracts you, heres a list of some of the best shows to leave on in the background. These are some shows that you don't need to watch every second of to understand whats going on or be entertained.

1. New Girl
What it is: New Girl is about a corky teacher named Jessica Day (Zoey Deschanel) who moves into a loft apartment with 3 men after she finds out her boyfriend of 5 years cheated on her. The characters are what make this show such a gem. They're all so different but compliment each other so well and it'll give you a laugh for sure.
Why it's perfect background TV: New Girl is a must watch. I've probably seen all of the seasons 7 times and I still never hesitate to put it on when I need a show in the background while I'm doing work. Theres no need to pay full attention, but its still an entertaining show that will give you a good laugh.
Actors: Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone, Lamorne Morris.
Number of Seasons: 7

2. The Office
What it is: A simple show based in the office of a Paper Company called Dunder Mifflin. These employees never seem to get anything done besides pranks. Especially the "World's Best Boss" Michael Scott.
Why it's perfect background TV: You've probably seen it, multiple times. Even if you haven't, it's a great show to keep you entertained without having to be fully invested. Plus, if you're in the small percentage of people who haven't watched the Office, you need to give it a try. But - you will probably be humming the theme song subconsciously for hours. Plus, theres been rumors for a long time that The Office is coming off Netflix, who knows when it will actually happen but you better get the 9 seasons in before it does!
Actors: Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Rainn Wilson, Angela Kinsey, Mindy Kaling, Brain Baumgartner, B.J. Novak, Ed Helms, and many more.
Number of Seasons: 9

3. Queer Eye
What it is: Queer Eye is a Netflix Original show that is a spin off of the original television series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. It is about 5 gay men (who together make "the Fab Five") who travel to surprise and give a make over to nominated people of all genders and backgrounds. Each of the men specialize in a different area: clothing style, grooming, home renovation, food & wine, and culture. Together they make the "Fab Five." This show will leave you thinking there is still good in the world.
Why it's perfect background TV: Each episode features a different make-over, so you will not be stuck with one plot line for the whole series. This makes it easy to skip around episodes, and lets you tune in when you want to. Perfect to leave on while completing other tasks simultaneously!
The Fab Five:
Atoni Porowski - Food & Wine
Tan France (Fashion)
Jonathan Van Ness (Grooming)
Bobby Berk (Home Design)
Karamo Brown (Culture)
Number of Seasons: 4 (and still coming - Season 5, 2020)

4. Gossip Girl
What it is: Gossip Girl follows a group of high-class privileged Manhattan private school kids (who honestly seem too old for their age) who get away with everything. There is an anonymous blogger (Gossip Girl) who shares gossip about the group that they can't seem to get away from or keep hidden. This show is definitely drama filled, and you'll want to learn who "Gossip Girl" is.
Why it's perfect background TV: The plot can be a little hard to follow, the couples are constantly changing and lets be honest, the stories are a little ridiculous at times. If you want to watch every detail and follow everything, thats definitely possible. However, you might as well leave it on in the background, enjoy the fashion, the drama and the music.
Actors: Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Ed Westwick, Chase Crawford.
Number of Seasons: 6
